Album DescriptionTo listen to these guitar pieces, written and performed by Guillermo Diego, is to recognize what kind of spirito is meant by the title under which the works have been grouped. In an important way, the intention of this new CD is perfectly coherent with the music recorded in Guillermo Diego's previous CD, Stories and Fantasy [URT 82]. At the same time, it represents the continuity of a compositional and performing oeuvre that started three decades ago.Mexican composer and guitarist Guillermo Diego is recognized as one of the most prominent figures in the concert music of Mexico. For his work in developing the guitar repertoire, he is considered one of the principal renovators of instrumental music in his country. For the better part of his thirty-year career, his works have been presented in the most important venues, such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes and International Cervantino Festival as well as in the US, France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Brazil, Canada, and Thailand. Guillermo Diego has been the past recipient of grants from the National Foundation for Arts and Letters (Mexico) as well as the National Endowments for the Arts and the Rockefeller Foundation in the US.
