Fine Performance of Neglected Works

"There are several recordings of the incomplete Piano Quartet (Lekeu died at 24!), but none that I know of currently available of the Trio. It would be worth duplicating the Quartet to get the Trio, for anyone who responds to the work of this astonishing composer. For anyone who has never heard his music, it's like a heady cross between Franck (who was an early advocate of his music), Faure, and late Beethoven. The Quartet looks forward to Faure's very late post war chamber music. To my unexpert ear the performances are idiomatic and attuned to Lekeu's rarefied idiom. What a tragic loss to music that this gifted composer died so young!"
