Album DescriptionMozart Camargo Guarnieri (1907-1993) was one of Brazil's most distinguished composers. He along with Heitor Villa-Lobos and Francisco Mignone constituted the principal effort to introduce Brazilian content into classical music forms during the early twentieth century. The Estudos span forty years of Guanieri's later life, the last few etudes being among his final works. They are a major contribution to the international field of piano literature. Brazilian music critic Maria Abreu has written of the pieces: "The studies of Camargo Guarnieri, as those of Chopin, present problems of transcendental difficulty in artistic form; those of Guarnieri are the pianistic epitome of his works. There is nothing more complex or virtuosic in the range of Brazilian music than these studies. They should be recorded for their musical beauty as well as pedagogical value.
