Album DescriptionOn this wonderful CD, the Brazilian Grupo Muzenza pays tribute to capoeira, the dance/martial art that is a symbol of Brazil's cultural identity. Born of oppression and slavery in Brazil, the unique style of capoeira weds beauty and power. Berimbau, reco-reco, pandeiro, agogo, and atabaque provide the rhythms for capoeira's different movements. Grupo Muzenza, established in May 1972, is led by Mestre Burguês Antônio Carlos de Menezes. The group has released several CDs and is well known in more than twenty-five countries around the world. The instruments played here include three different sizes of berimbau (a musical bow), two pandeiros (tambourines), and an atabaque (drum). Grupo Muzenza's main purpose is to spread capoeira and its philosophy, while always trying to bring back the value of the elder masters.
