Good overall, leaves out too many important parts

"Much better than any recording that just features the Peer Gynt suites, here we have a few more movements with the beautiful voice of Lucia Popp and an okay chorus. Marriner conducts very well, even if he doesn't give it the big sound that you would get with a more Romantic oriented conductor, the ASMF being associated more with Mozart and Handel. Popp sounds a little too loud in comparison to the orchestra, her voice was too forwardly placed in the recording. The chorus could have been better, but I'm being picky. Overall, this is a good performance and a big improvement for anyone who just has the two orchestral suites. The choral and vocal parts are wonderful and vital to the overall effect. While the Tate recording has more selections, this is a better performance.(Y)ou won't be disappointed by this CD, but it will make you hungry for more selections from Peer Gynt."

"This excellent recording shows why "In the Hall of the Mountain Kings" has become so well known. A powerful performance of a great composition."
