CD Reviews

Crap With A Capital "C"
Jeffrey Thomas Boutin | Florida | 03/31/2001
(1 out of 5 stars)

"First of all, this is a live album from 1997. Gregory Isaac's voice is long gone, and it is well known. So, the only way to get people to buy this- is to forget to mention anywhere on the packaging that this is greatest hits- live. I was burned, burned, burned! Even if the quality of the recordings(performance included) was excellent-which it isn't- I would still prefer to know whether I am purchasing a live album before I get surprised. Enough about my initial disappointment. What little is left of Mr. Isaac's voice reaches for notes that are just beyond his ability- cracking and wheezing and warbling and stumbling over rhythms, losing the rhythm altogether- giving you the impression that the CD is skipping. For the first ten minutes, I thought it was my car CD player malfunctioning. Mr. Isaac's backing band sounds embarassed to be there- performing the same generic groove through the whole set. He even has to prompt the audience with a "Thank You" at the end of each song to then receive applause. The applause is barely audible, and I don't believe that it is mixed low- the applause just isn't there. This recording is complete Crap. I can't believe that I have to work one and a half hours at a job that I despise just to earn the money to pay for this piece of... I'm trying to stay away from profanity, but the more I think about it the harder it is to keep my language clean. Stay away. Please do not give the record company that commisioned this crap a reward. I am going to have to trade my copy into the local used record store, and I am riddled with guilt. Maybe I should instead put the product under my tire and roll back and forth- getting this copy out of circulation for good, so no one else can get burned."
