(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is the first in a new series of releases and is very good for the most part. Unlike releases in the Dick's Picks Series, this release is made of highlights of 5 shows (6 if you get the bonus disc). The first stars off with the 4th ever live Alabama Getaway going for the third time into Promised Land and it's quite fun. Jack Straw->Deal are good and Dancin'->Franklin's are even more so. The set closing Wharf Rat->I Need A Miracle->Bertha->Good Lovin' is the best thing on the first disc with Wharf Rat being one for the ages.

While people seem split on the quality of the second disc, I find it great from the start. Shakedown is a monster. Passenger is good dispite a blown section and the Terrapin Station->Playing In The Band is wonderful. Not Fade Away is better than some and the first Morning Dew in a year and a half is moving.

The bonus disc starts with a good China/Rider. The Sailor/Saint/Jam is very, very good. The Estimated/He's Gone goes into a long and drawn out Gloria jam. All in all, this is a nice example of late 1979. The two complaints about this release are (a)that it's not a whole show and (b)some of the performances are rather mellow. I should point out that the idea here was to release the best parts of shows that on the whole did not call for full releases (IE they picked the highlights) and that Fall '79 did feature a few of the tunes being played in a more mellow fashion (like Terrapin). Brent had only been playing with Brent for about six months and finds him trying out a few things that you don't hear much after this."
