"My cousin bought the LP of "Around Grapefruit" long ago when she was a child in the 1960s. When she decided to do some spring-cleaning in the 1980s, she handed down this LP to me. Since then, it's been one of my favorite LPs. I listened to the tracks countless times as a kid, and I'm sure I'll be getting the new CD re-issue anyday now, if not for any other reason than for nostalgia sake.Grapefruit was "discovered" by John Lennon, as the other reviewers pointed out, and they have a sound that is quite similar to the Beatles'. The music is simultaneously bouncy and catchy yet somehow a little sad. I suppose one might call Grapefruit's music a sort of drug-hazed Beatles-lite pop.Still, it is enjoyable enough on its own merits. I know I probably wore out an already worn LP listening to the songs, but they grow on you after multiple listenings. I thought the singers harmonized rather well; "Yesterday's Sunshine" and "Marianne" were two of my favorite tracks. I think I ultimately distorted the track on the LP for "Round Going Round" so it would be nice to hear the song as it was supposed to be played.People who have never heard of Grapefruit will probably not be terribly interested in the CD. It's really a matter of taste. For me, though, Grapefruit's music brings back many fond memories of childhood and a more innocent time, so I will gladly be adding this CD to my collection."
