"This CD is really great. The Burgmuller Duo is one of my favorite romantic clarinet pieces. It has beautiful melodies, and a simple elegance that is very charming. I'm not sure why this piece isn't more popular. It's absolutely wonderful. The Danzi is nice, and the style is a little more flamboyant (more similar to Weber). However, I think the piece sounds slightly less refined that some other pieces on the disc (I'm not sure if this is a compositional issue, or just the way it's interpretted). The Stadler unaccompanied pieces are fun, and contained many melodies I had heard before. Loewe's Scottish Pictures are nice, though much more simple and not as interesting as the other pieces on this disc. The last piece is the very common Grand Duo Concertante by Weber. I feel that Lawson takes the first and third movement a little slower than most, but I think he phrases well enough that they never become stagnant.
I love period recordings, and this CD contains some very good ones. Additionally, the pieces are mostly unique and not available on many other recordings. I highly recommend this recording, especially for the beautiful Burgmuller Duo."
