"I think this has to be considered one of the best recordings of the Gounod opera. Cluytens makes an extraordinary approach to Faust and conducts the orchestra with such an amazing elegance. Gedda and Christoff are really in good shape but Victoria de los Angeles performs her role with a great voice. Any respectable melomaniac has to have this one."
Yes! Go for it! It's worth the search

"Very Short....and to the point!
This recording is simply wonderful. Recorded in '51, here, and then the principals re-recorded it again in '58 in stereo......Charles Gounod: Faust
But, make no mistake, THIS recording stands well above that later remake, stereo or not. Everyone is younger here, in better voice, and the pacing of Cluytens seems more "right" also....who cares if this is in mono???? It is a GREAT historical document, and a much more enjoyable recording.
Sadly out of print, so snag yourself a copy sooner rather than later....with the way things are going with the major labels, I doubt if this will reappear again, like so very many other great recordings of the past.
