"Gordon Brisker, a fairly unknown Australian tenor saxophonist, had the honour of being the first to release an album on the Naxos Jazz label. True to the philosophy of Naxos Jazz, this CD introduces an obscure talent to a wider audience. On this recording he is surrounded by familiar names from the New York jazz scene : Tim Hagans (trumpet and flugelhorn), Marc Copland (piano), Jay Anderson (bass) and Jeff Hirshfield (drums). He sounds like a perfectly seasoned pro, with a lyrical style. His original compositions (there's four of them on this album) somehow conjure up images of a California beach. Oops, I guess that should be Bondi Beach, really. Nothing that will frighten the horses here, but who needs that ? This is just great contemporary jazz, and that's good enough for me."
