"Gone is another one of Greg Ginn's bands that are hard to classify. The best way to describe Gone is to say it's whatever Ginn wants to play at any given moment. I have "Let's Get Real, Real Gone For A Change" and "The Criminal Mind" and have to say "The Epic Trilogy" is my new favorite Gone record. This new album comes with two versions -- one instrumental and another with vocals by HR from the Bad Brains. My mood determines which I prefer, but both shine. "The Epic Trilogy" has three songs and each are more than 15 minutes in length. HR's vocals fit perfectly with the tunes. His role is that of a vocalist performing an instrument and less of a singer. The songs are long but can be broken into numerous shorter songs. Ginn takes everything in his brain and lays it out on these discs. The third track, "Hip Hop Hooray" is industrial sounding while "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" and "More and More" borrow from blues and the Stooges when they freaked out on "Funhouse." There's even some moments when Ginn slows down to the closest thing since the second side of "My War," which is my favorite thing he's ever done. Needless to say, I was impressed with "The Epic Trilogy." It's like a mini greatest hits for Ginn, who is capable of playing a bunch of different genres. I've written a few other reviews of Ginn because he just put out a ton of albums and I don't see them getting much press."
