Another fascinating "forgotten figure" in music history, Goffredo Giarda (1886-1973) was the son of a great concert pianist who played duets with Paderewski, and was a friend of Verdi. He became famous all over Europe as an organist with "a sensitivity and imagination for timbres, and a vivacious and ready conception of the use of registers," producing "a dazzling variety of colors."
