How to describe the smooth tenor voice of Glenn Yarbrough? Perhaps by comparing it to the mighty seas that gave the legendary folksinger a case of wanderlust--occasionally rough but always beautiful and strong. When Yarbro... more »ugh left the Limeliters in the early 1960s for a solo outing (and the occasional sailing voyage), he knew what he was doing--hits like "Baby, the Rain Must Fall" would establish him as one of the premier love balladeers of '60s. Though Time to Move On, Yarbrough's intimate solo debut from 1963, lacks the pop production of his later efforts, it's a remarkable recording. Sincerity, infectious melodies, and great lyrics mark "In This Wide World," "The Honey Wind Blows," and "Stella's Got a New Dress." Previously unavailable on CD, Time to Move On features exceptional sonics and Yarbrough at the top of his form. A must-have for fans. --Jason Verlinde« less

Glenn Yarbrough's Best
09/20/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)
"For anyone looking to experience the quintessential Glenn Yarbrough, I recommend this album. Glenn graces whatever he sings, but it is in the mature Folk style of Time to Move On that his work is most moving, and truly stands apart. This record inhabits its own universe, in which man and music achieve a sort of mystic identification. The songs are lyrically, melodically and harmonically rich, effectively arranged (with strings included), and sung with that unique, crystal-clear voice. The strength of material and freedom from sentimentality contribute to the effect of a sublime, timeless whole.Folk Era Records is to be commended for reissuing the original RCA Victor album on CD. Five-plus stars."
A Great Singer's Greatest Album

"Everyone should be introduced to Glenn Yarbrough through this album. It was his first solo effort (recorded in 1963) and arguably his best. Most people think of "Baby the Rain Must Fall" when they hear Glenn's name, but that song is totally commercial compared to some of the tracks on this one. "You Know My Name" is a perfect opening song for a collection and sets the stage for what is to come. The highest points for me are "If It Fits Your Fancy" and "Time to Move On", but there are no bad tracks to be found here. I've been a Yarbrough fan since I first heard this album in my college dorm in 1964. The opportunity to buy one of my all-time favorites on CD could not be passed up. This is beautiful music! Try it. I think you'll like it."

"I may be in my early twenties, and I may love my MTV and my American Idol and all that, but I know good music when I hear it, and I LOVE Glenn Yarborough. His voice is beautiful, his song selection inspired, and this, "Time to Move On", is his best album. All the songs are under three minutes, but each one is a jewel. Here's a breakdown:Track One: "You Know My Name", an upbeat and stormy song, opens the album. 4/5
Track Two: "Angel Cake and Wine" is a slow and sultry ballad. 4/5
Track Three: Light and pleasant, "The Honey Wind Blows" is typical of Yarborough's style. 4/5
Track Four: "If it Fits Your Fancy". Sweet and well-sung. 4/5
Track Five: A very good example of the 60's folk style, "The World I used to Know" is one of the strongest tracks on the album. 4/5
Track Six: "In This Wide World". Gorgeous song, brilliantly sung. Perfect. 5/5
Track Seven: My favorite song on the CD, "Time to Move On" is a song you carry with you and think of whenever change enters your life. Bravo Glenn! 5/5
Track Eight: Jaunty and playful, "San Francisco Bay Blues" is great fun. 4/5
Track Nine: "Sleep My Love". Tender ballad. 4/5
Track Ten: "Stella's Got a New Dress". How I love this song! My mom used to sing it to me when I was a little girl. Who could imagine a sight so fair/As Stella in her pretty new dress? 5/5
Track Eleven: "Diamonds of Dew". Another ballad with great guitar work. Also shows off Glenn's range. 4/5
Track Twelve: "Four Strong Winds". The last track, and a fitting end to a terrific album. 5/5And there you have it. If you have never heard Yarborough's work before, I highly recommend buying this album. For fans, a greatest hits CD (he has several) is a good bet, but think about getting "Time to Move On" as well, as it is essential for understanding the 60's folk movement. Highly recommended!GRADE: A"

"I have the origonal album and am purchasing the CD today. This is what I call Sunday afternoon music. You can relax and float away on this voice, back to a time and or place where the beauty of life was applauded. One of the top folk singers in my book."
A Musical Excursion Back To My Youth

"The music of Glenn Yarbrough's first solo album 'Time To Move On' brings back pleasant memories from my youth. Whenever I heard that unmistakeable smooth tenor voice coming from behind my sister's closed bedroom door I couldn't help but intrude upon her privicy and go in and listen. Eventually I had to buy a copy of the album so I could listen undisturbed in my room. I couldn't be more pleased when I found out it was finally available on CD!
'Time To Move On' is one of those very rare albums/CD's where everything comes together to absolute perfection. The production values, song selection and Glenn's unique voice and style make for a listening experience truly beyond description.
Somethings are best left in the past. This is not one of them. Glenn's music has withstood the test of time and is still as enjoyable today as it ever was. In my opinion this CD captures Glenn at his peak."
