These two Soundtracks, available for the first time on a single CD, have been out of print for five years. Originally released in 1974, Claudine was composed entirely by soul superstar Curtis Mayfield, and performed by Gladys Knight & The Pips. It features the million-selling single "On And On." The album went gold, and hit number 1 on the R&B charts in the summer of 1974. The CD also contains the complete soundtrack for Pipe Dreams, originally released in 1976. I lived in what use to be known as the Robert Tayler Homes in Chicago,Il. As a kid I would hear the songs from this soundtrack blasting from screendoors from inside the many apartments as I played. The Moms would play the songs off that LP as though it was their anthem. Those were some hard times back then, Those women held it all together for us. Claudine plays tribute to them, when the tough got going they got tougher. I am a long way form the Robert Taylor Homes (Housing Project) but the songs from this CD reminds me where I come from and the sacrifices that were made to get me where I am. Who-ever you are buy this CD Glady Knight's soulful voice will reach right down in your heart and squeeze. You will feel every struggle, pain, and joy of Claudine." Two "lost" albums finally surface. The soundtrack for "Claudine", written and produced by the late, great Curtis Mayfield, was a tour-de-force for the group, as well as a modest cinematic hit for stars Dihann Carroll and James Earl Jones. But the real treat here is the soundtrack for Gladys' acting debut, "Pipe Dreams", containing the # 12 R&B hit, and my personal favorite Gladys performance, "So Sad the Song". The movie was a bust, but the soundtrack is finally available again. It only took 31 years."
