"If you've heard solo recordings by any of these three fantastic singers, you'll know that they are all enormously talented in their different ways, but it won't prepare you for this album. Claire Martin is my favorite jazz lady. Barb Jungr is an outstanding cabaret singer who has re-interpreted classic songs recorded by Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and others. Mari Wilson is the Neasden queen of soul, who had a British top ten hit in the early eighties with Just what I always wanted, together with several lesser hits including a cover of Cry me a river, the Julie London classic. Here, the three ladies join forces for a fun (and I do mean fun) album of cover versions, most of the songs being from the sixties.
It's difficult to pick highlights, but their covers of Terry (Twinkle) and D-I-V-O-R-C-E (Tammy Wynette), in which they seem to be poking fun at the original very sad songs, are definitely worth a listen. Their inclusion on a fun album wouldn't work if recorded faithfully. Most of the other songs are performed in a reasonably faithful manner including Walking in the sunshine, My guy, You keep me hanging on, Wishing and hoping, Single girl, Let's jump the broomstick, Chapel of love and I'm gonna make you mine.
Do not buy this if you're expecting it to sound like any of the individual solo albums, but if you want music with a sense of fun, this might be just what you're looking for."
