CD ReviewsThird Time's as Charming as the First Two Mark Baker | Santa Clarita, CA United States | 04/14/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "With two regular projects and one extra, acoustic CD under her belt, Ginny Owens has established a fan following. They will be thrilled by her newest CD.If her second project took her pop style and moved it slightly toward a progressive sound, this moves it toward R&B. It's very slight through most of the album, and stylistically, this is closer to her debut CD then the last one was. Piano, like always, plays a major roll in the music. This CD seems to have duel themes, both introduced in the first two songs. "Won't That Be Fine" focuses on the joy we can get here on earth thinking about Heaven. There is an upbeat, isn't God great feel to it. This carries over to several other songs as well. "I Love the Way" marvels at how good God is to us by focusing on the little things He allows us to enjoy. "Call Me Beautiful" is about the confidence that knowing God loves us can give us. And "Always" focuses on the fact that God never changes no matter what is going on around us.On the flip side, "New Song" introduces the theme of trusting God when we don't know what is happening around us. This song in particular deals with the issues of change when we are content with where we are. "Ordinary Day" actually celebrates the fact that God brings the unexpected to us and controls our lives. My favorite track by far falls into this category as well. "To Trust You" captures my life so well. All too often, I pray and then go on with what I have planned anyway. I need songs like this to remind myself that "Broken here before You on my knees/Is my only hope of finding peace."The CD closes with another great song, "I Know Who You Are." This song takes the attitude that it doesn't matter what others think of my beliefs because I know God personally. I wish I could say I always lived this, but it's a wonderful reminder of what is truly important.Ginny's pen is as powerful and honest as always. She wrote six of the songs and co-wrote the others.Ginny Owens continues to impressive me with her lyrics and fun to listen to music. If you were a fan of her previous releases, this will be right up your ally. And if you haven't tried her yet, do so. You won't be disappointed in the least." Strong Message, Great Sound S. Peek | Rocky Mountains, USA | 12/10/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Ginny Owens is an artist who certainly knows how to make beautiful music. She also has powerful Christian lyrics. She is obviously someone who has a deep faith and shows it in her songwriting. Her music here has an R&B sound to it. It is centered around her piano playing. The sound is superb. The songs here are about God's faithfulness to us, His unconditional love for us, the pleasures that He provides for us, and the awesome prize at the end. I recommend this CD for the sound and the message both." A Project That Confirms I'm a Ginny Owens fan. Indiana Jeff Reynolds | Indianapolis, IN USA | 05/10/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I've been listening to projects by performers I've heard a previous project of. A couple of them have been disappointments, but a couple of others have confirmed that I like the artist. This is an example.
I like Ginny's more keyboard based music; most of what I hear is more guitar based, and while I am not complaining, I like the variety. I also like Owen's jazzy sound. The lyrics are also clear enough about her faith to build up my faith. My favorite songs on this project are "Won't That Be Fine", "Call Me Beautiful", "Let Them Hear", "Ordinary Day", "To Trust You", "Who Are You Listening To" and "I Know Who You Are."" |
