CD Reviews

Another Must For Any Music Fan!
M. Wittstein | 09/25/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First of all, please note that the title of the CD is "Hated," not "Hated in the Nation," which is a completely different CD/cassette.As for "Hated," this is one of my favorite G.G. offerings, and I would recommend it to hardcore G.G. Allin fans (of course, you guys already have it!), as well as to those curious as to what real rock 'n' roll sounds like. Cuts 1, 5, and 8-11 are all taken directly from the studio album, "Freaks Faggots Drunks and Junkies," but there is always room for these gems on other CDs. "Hated" also features the live version of "Bite It You Scum" (there are over eighty versions of this song available by the way!) from the Space At Chase Show, and the most killer rendition of "Gypsy Motherfucker" that I ever heard. The liner notes say this is from the rehearsal sessions with Dee Dee Ramone, but I have both the cassette and video of these rehearsals, and I am unable to locate it anywhere. Well, at least it's on "Hated"!This CD also features brief spoken segments from the documentary. You can hear G.G.'s music teacher wonder "why and what for, and what about these excesses?" Hey, teach, the fact is, G.G. is way over your head. You need to learn something about integrity!"
Decent GG primer

"This would make a good first CD for someone who is just starting to get into the sick, fetid, poop-eating reality that is GG Allin. Probably the closest thing in print to a GG "greatest hits" album, this has songs culled from various times in his career. My only gripes with this album is that it doesn't have the studio version of "Bite it you Scum", and there is nothing from his less-extreme work prior to around 1987."
Forget this CD and locate the video instead!

"The soundtrack CD to the amazing Todd Phillips-directed G.G. Allin documentary "Hated" is a compilation of previously released studio tracks and live versions which are virtually indistinguishable from other live G.G. CDs. Aside from a creepy, acoustic cover of Warren Zevon's "Carmelita" recorded specifically for the film, there is nothing about this CD I can recommend. This CD is a poor substitute for the documentary, which is the funniest, most depraved rock 'n' roll movie of all time.Bottom line: get the video and forget this audio "souvenir"."
