"In the 1950s, George Wallington (whose real name was Giacinto Figlia) was regarded as one of the best pianists of his day. After a successful run fronting numerous bop/hard bop groups with the likes of Jackie McLean, Donald Byrd and Phil Woods, and playing with Dizzy Gillespie, he disappeared from the music world in 1957. In the mid-1980s, he came back to record three solo piano albums, including this very satisfying session. Wallington's strong Bud Powell influence is evident."
