"I'll confess. Long, long ago, when I started *really* collecting some of this type of music on vinyl, I only paid attention to Shearing for his album covers. Particularly those "Satin" or "Velvet" covers. You know the ones I mean. They had the element I was looking for and, along with Esquivel, Denny, and countless, countless others, I snapped them up. Then came an LP with Shearing and Nancy Wilson called "The Swinging's Mutual." I got it, took it home, listened to it on my old Zenith Cobramatic and fell in love. Both with Shearing AND Wilson. Then, a little later, I found this very LP in a thrift store for something like 45 cents. Clean as a whistle. Snatched it up too. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It is straight up, some of the tightest, swinging I've heard this side of the Milt and the MJQ or Miles' Quintet. Hush yo' mouth! Nope, I said it. It's true. It is unreal, and it's live and it's non-stop, from start to finish, some of the finest playing that I think the Strip has ever heard and that Capitol records has ever laid to wax. And, the cover on this ain't half-bad either.
You gotta get this cd now. Ain't no other way to put it but that. You will definitely, definitely not be disappointed."
