"George Olsen's orchestra was really hitting its stride when these sides were recorded. His complex-but-pleasing orchestrations of Broadway and pop tunes played by high caliber musicians well exemplify the care-free spirit and joie de vivre of the "jazz age", 1920s.
Most of the songs on this CD are happy, upbeat, high-energy performances that have been pleasingly remastered. Olsen's Victor dance recordings were second only to Paul Whiteman's in sales during this period, and they possess a musical vibrancy that was often lacking in the more regimented Whiteman outfit.
Giving this CD a five-star rating really does not accord these recordings the proper respect that they deserve. If you like 1920s music, then you probably already know how important George Olsen was to this era. This CD (all electrical recordings) and its equally excellent companion, Volume I (mainly acoustic recordings), are vital additions to one's collection of vintage performances."
