"George Dalaras has been one of my favorite vocalists for about 14 years now ever since I got my hands on a $25 import CD in 1987 from a Chicago GreekTown Gift Shop. Ever since then, I have actively sought Dalaras CD's from such giftshops all over the world. His voice is remarkable and aptly represents "rembetica" music of his native Greece. To my knowledge, "The Running Roads" is his first splash into the "world music" distribution world being snapped up by Miles Copeland's Mondo Melodia Label. This album is a big disappointment and does not accurately represent the Dalaras sound. Instead, this album awkwardly blends overblown synthysizers, guitars, and drums with the great Dalaras voice and the project comes up empty and superficial. It sounds like a blatent attempt to "update" the Dalaras sound. It doesn't work. There are nice moments on the album such as tracks 1, 3, and 16. This is one of the worst Dalaras albums I own. It's overproduced and overblown like a classic 80's album. Get the his "unplugged" album from a few years back that captures the real Dalaras sound."

"As a Greek and music lover I have never gone wrong with Geore Dalaras. Unlike other Greek singers Geogre is always changing. Progressing while never losing his Greek style. I purchase every release and I am sometimes treated to rembetika (a greek style), dimotika (also greek) classical, church music, latin, rock or world music. This CD is one of my favourites of his because it blends all the above into a wonderful collection. If you haven't heard of George you are missing out on a real talent and one of the most moving voices in the world. This CD is a great introduction and one that will gain him fans in the US. Purchase and enjoy his is great!!!"

"George Dalaras sings with sensitivity and passion expressing the Greek soul and capturing truths about life. The roots of the music are from ancient Byzantium despite being played on modern instruments and having current lyrics. The poetic translations in the liner notes express the depth and intense nature of each song. The artistry is unsurpassed. Like a painting in words, his sensuous voice melds with the exotic Greek music appealing to the listener on all levels.
"Running Roads" is another masterpiece, every single track is full of feeling and depth, a full expression of life. This is my fourth Dalaras CD, I have "The Very Best of George Dalaras", "50 Hronia Rembetiko", & "I Megalitgres Epithies": all are equally excellent. This CD demonstrates why George Dalaras CDS have sold over 7 million world-wide. 7 million people can not be wrong, his music touches the soul, no need to understand Greek to appreciate the music, it has universal appeal! "I am a huge George Dalaras fan. Seeing the new album, my first thought was "Great!" Then I saw that Sting was on the album and bought it without a second thought. If you are not familiar with Dalaras' music, this album is easy to listen to, but if you're looking for the emotion and power of his earlier albums, you may be disappointed. I was. And, if you already own some of his albums, you'll hear some of the same cuts. Glad to own it, but I find myself listening to his earlier music ("A Portrait," "The Very Best Of," "Unplugged") instead."
