Synopsis

Album Description
2008 digitally remastered edition of this rarely heard album from the man who helped invent Rock 'N' Roll in the late '50s. In 1969 and 1970, the Kama Sutra label put Gene in their newly acquired LA studio with the cream of young session men to produce an album. Taking a cue from The Band, Bob Dylan, The Sir Douglas Quintet, and possibly fellow rocker Dale Hawkins (who had just had an amazing album out himself!) Gene rose to the occasion big-time! Possibly one of the most unexpected and astonishing albums of Roots Rock and Americana is what we have here...with Gene in great form as usual! 21 tracks including 'Sunshine', '500 Miles', 'A Million Shades Of Blue' and more. Rev-Ola.

CD Reviews

Gene Vincent's Swan Song
Scott A. Z. Heinekamp | Aurora NY | 11/18/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is really two albums put together. I knew the first one ("Gene Vincent") and loved it, and I'm no big fan of rockabilly. The second album (the title escapes me) is the other half of these Kama Sutra sessions from 1971 or so, well past Gene's fame. He sounds older, calmer, wiser. It features Doug Sahm's band, and they play the hell out of every tune, covers and originals. Sweet, delicate ("Geese"), masterfully sung, ferocious ("Slow Times Comin'"), this has the sound of a bunch of old friends playing music with love and passion. I can't recommend this music highly enough. Not exactly country, not really rock and roll, a little bit swampy, music that sounds like the band only wants to play music, and get the record execs out the room."
