"Gene Cornish & The Unbeatables Live At Palisades park isn't really "live"...it is comprised of studio tracks linked with some overdubbed applause. The palisades park angle was devised to capitalize on their sucessful performances at the then-famous NJ amusement park, and to usurp the involvement of DJ B.Mitchell Reed. However, if you can listen past the studio trickery, the songs and performances themselves are delightful, well performed and quite slickly produced.
Gene of course became a member of THE RASCALS (aka YOUNG RASCALS) soon after. THAT band made some of the greatest pop/soul records in history, racked up an impressive list of classic hits, and went on to become Rock n Roll Hall of Famers. The most well known track here is probably I WANNA BE A BEETLE, noted in most of the Beatles trivia books, which is a cutesy-clever/rockin' Beatles novelty record ( I wanna be a beatle...and really knock 'em dead...with rings on my fingers...and a mop on my head) The CD is very enjoyable--pretty neat stuff for a young group who was just starting to make a name for themselves before they split. For more info on Gene Cornish and the Rascals please visit newrascals dot net and therascalsarchives dotcom"
