"This CD consists of 2 Prestige recordings Gene made on successive days in October 1961, "Up Tight" and "Boss Soul." Ammons was in fine form on both days. Everything recorded gets your attention, whether it be a slow ballad like "I'm afraid the masquerade is over" or an up-tempo swinger like "Lester leaps in." There are no mighty peaks here, or are there any valleys--just solid right-on playing."
