Great example of Soulful jazz

"This is the type of jazz that is both accessible and enjoyable, as opposed to the "free jazz" movement that turned a lot of people off at the time. Listen to Jungle Strut and the hauntingly beautiful "Didn't We" and that 's almost the price of admission (listeners from Charleston, SC might remember "Didn't We" as the theme for Del Woods' "Jazz Interational" show on WPAL radio on Sunday nights). However, the version of "Son of a Preacher Man" bears litttle resemblance to the Dusty Springfield tune. But that minor issue aside, enjoy."
THE REAL STUFF !!!

"I loved this album. The huge, beautiful sound of Gene Ammons tenor is well recorded. He plays some wonderful ballads (Blue velvet, Here's that rainy day, Didn't We, Feeling good) and he also swings hard on titles like Ger-ru, He's a real gone guy (a burner !), Jungle strut. The band is fine with Sonny Phillips on organ, Bernard Purdie on drums, Junior Mance on piano."
