Product DescriptionThe follow-up to Gary Portnoy's well received 2004 release, "Keeper", is a mostly self-penned, introspective work of some depth. The melodies here are laced with memorable pop hooks (as one would expect from the man behind the "Cheers" theme), but it is the lyrics that surprise and, ultimately, rule the day. "Manhattan Heartache", a haunting ode to the lonely side of life on that island in the Hudson, has "standard" written all over it. The infectious buoyancy of "Life On The Outside" and "A Younger Time" plays nicely against the weightier sentiments those songs put forth. And as with all the songs on this CD, the poignant texts of "Talk Of Jesus" and the title track, "Destiny", are wed to just the right music (performed here by a stellar lineup of accomplished players.) Portnoy's heartfelt vocal readings all but declare this to be an autobiographical work- a mid life rumination on friendship, family, and faith. "Destiny" is a revealing and insightful CD that will undoubtedly resonate with those already familiar with Gary Portnoy's songwriting and singing. It is sure to attract new fans, as well. (Also included is a never before released full length version of the theme to "Mr. Belvedere".)
