I agree with an earlier review that states that this isn't Gary Moore's best blues work.
It's not bad though.

As is customary with Moore's blues albums, this is a mix of faster-paced blues and slow ballad-type(Have You Heard","Evenin'") blues songs.

Track 1 "If the Devil made Whisky" is a growling blues song and really nice lyrically.

"Eyesight to the Blind" is a cover of the Sonny Boy Williamson tune from the 50s.
My favorite track on the cd. Another Gary Moore blues song with a sizzling lead that he's known for.

"Hard Times" is a blues tune with a great harmonica.
Moore's vocals are excellent here!

"Checkin' up on my Baby" has a strong British blues sound to it. Vaguely reminds me of early Yardbirds "Smokestack Lightning" or Led Zeppelin's "How many more times".

"Sundown" is an acoustic cover of the Son House song.

I like this cd better than "Back To The Blues".
It's not as strong as "Bad For You Baby" or "After Hours" but for Gary Moore fans it contains some very good blues.

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I wish there was a 1/2 star rating because this CD deserves a two and half star rating instead of a three star one. Moore is one of the best blues players out there. As he proved on Still Got the Blues, he can play the Texas blues like he shared mother's milk with the Vaughn brothers (Stevie Ray and big brother Jimmie, co-founder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds).

I'm not looking for everything to be Still Got the Blues or Parisienne Walkways, but I do like inventiveness, freshness in the sound. Moore has left his delicacy behind for chunking power chords without any of the kind of finesse he's capable of. Check out Scars. An album full of power and rockers, but amazingly inventive.

This album has a somewhat stale feel. I love Moore, and wish more people knew who he was, but this is not his best effort by any stretch, and bringing in former Thin Lizzy drummer and band mate, Brian Downey, didn't to much to invigorate the album, either.

It's really a pity."
