(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once you've listened to this disk you won't forget who Garnett was working for when he made these recordings, The Conquering Lion. Although, I think he is using the producer's name and The Almighty's interchangeably, the name is mentioned so many times throughout the CD it almost sounds like a mantra. There is nothing wrong with this and perhaps The Conquering Lion should be hailed many times because together they produced some of Garnett's best recordings. Recorded, supposedly before Garnett became "Huge," The production style, smooth voice and cultural lyrics make this a very fun disk to listen to. Usually, I'm not a fan who appreciates dancehall that much. The slackness and "gangsta" thing plus the hip-hop production style just doesn't do it for me. (And, yes I know there are plenty of Dancehall artists with cultural lyrics but the music itself is not reggae). However, the music on "Garnett Silk Meets The Conquering Lion" is Reggae, it is so good that it almost transcends musical boundaries. But this CD will not disappoint Dancehall, Roots or any other type of music fan.The fact that the music is not buried by Garnett's warm vocals make this more appealing than many of his other recordings. The music, which is more old-school style Dancehall, is up front and still sounds like upbeat reggae even though it is slightly more electronic than most Roots music. Many of the tunes here have great introductions by Bionic Steve and others which builds anticipation for the song to follow. And once the music for such songs as "A Place In Lion Heart" kicks in we are not disappointed. Enough of my rambling on. Stop reading this and go get the CD!Respect! -Mark "Homebody" Groesbeck"
