Synopsis

Album Description
Tribe Vibe is past and future, raw and undefined, ancestral and infinite, wood and steel. Ganga Giri introduces the ancient Australian didgeridoo to the turntable, creating what he calls a 'manic-organic' experience. It's earth-centered, dance-inducing electronica for modern-day tribes. (Includes MPEG video of Ganga Giri live at Earthcore in Australia.)REVIEWS:
"Ganaga Giri is a wonderful musician. I first heard him at a Womad festival, and loved the mix of this ancient and primitive instrument with a wide range of great dance grooves. Ganga is really taking the didgeridoo to places it has never been before and developing a unique style of music."
--Peter Gabriel"The raw indigenous sounds of the Australian outback meet the synthetic wizardry of the studio on this neo-Aboriginal collage from Ganga Giri. TRIBE VIBE is packed with energy and dynamic rhythms amidst a whirl of nature and vocal samples, techno loops and organic percussion. The album's centerpiece is the didgeridoo - it's earthy drone slinks through each of the ten tracks. The album opens with 'Nungabunda,' one of the more psychedelic, dance-oriented works on the album, before taking African percussion on 'Afrodesiac,' straight drumming (mixed with the didg) on 'Bushtucker Man' and down-tempo trip-hop on 'Spirit Remix.'"
--Music Design"World-renowned musician Ganga Giri combines the ancient throb of the Australian didgeridoo with solid tribal beats and the technological rhythms of today. The result is an addictive, dance-inducing fusion of sound that will keep you entranced from beginning to end."

CD Reviews

Ganga Giri's dance vibe mixes ancient with trance

"Ganga is a friend, so this will be slightly prejudiced as a review. I will say that, though this is an EXCELLENT cd, I prefer his earlier work as in "Termite Grooves." In "Tribe Vibe", Ganga moves away from the more traditional sounding didgeridoo music and frankly into trance-dance. BUT....if you want to rock to the sound of the didge, this is absolutely a marvelous CD, especially for a party. We heard these cuts live at "Swizzeridoo" in Bern a few years ago when the CD launched, and the room was packed with people who waited all day and half the night to get up and dance. The didgeridoo is a long, hollow wood tube. Traditionally, it was a naturally-made instrument, a tree branch hollowed out by ants and cut by the Australian Aborigines to make their sacred music. In Europe, the didgeridoo is big with New-Age and World Music aficionados, and there are many festivals and workshops to advance this hypnotic-sounding monotone instrument. It's half wind instrument (aerophone, played by buzzing one's lips inside the mouthpiece) and half percussion, relying on rhythm as much as the tones and overtones. Ganga Giri, who has recorded with Peter Gabriel, explores all facets of the didgeridoo and has an almost cult following. If you are a fan of trance style dance music, you should give this a listen. I only wish you could hear Ganga perform live--he may come to Canada later in 2004 for a rare concert on this side of the Atlantic."
