"Gal Costa, undoubtfully Brazil's greatest singer, has grown-up. The Baiana's voice that before new nothing but very high notes is now not as high anymore, with GAL herself turning 60 next year. The voice that used to follow guitar notes is now giving place to a more interpretative work, with GAL BOSSA TROPICAL not having, for a single moment, a very high note. It is the first time Gal Costa is exploring a medium-low area of her voice that has always existed and is now only being accentuated after 39 years of singing. The hit "Sexo Fragil" got a completely new color in her voice, "The Fool on the Hill" was also brilliant, and "Onde Deus Possa Me Ouvir" have made me cry. Gal Costa has that little secret I guess, that only the greatest singers have, which is to revive old songs and make them as actual as they can possibly be. For those not very familiar with the Brazilian music scene, Gal Costa is, without pale to comparison, in repertoire, voice-extension, interpretation, and even a classical posture(Gal is very reserved about her personal life, being rarely scene in either Rio's, Sao Paulo's, or Salvador's night scene, and therefore never envolved in gossip like many other Brazilian artists that strive to expose themselves)the best Female singer Brazil have ever seen.
