"If you are unfamiliar with the Guru Guru sound, from these Prog rock/krautrock legends, lead by keyboardist/drummer MANI NEUMEIER, they are definately worth your time. Mani was/is a real heavy in the german rock scene, and worked with CLUSTER members as well. (Also, BEST OF GURU GURU Part 2 isn't a bad CD either.) The band's sound starts out with a very psychedelic vibe, especially on the first couple of LPs. (UFO and HINTEN, often refered to as their best.) Even tho the complete lenght of all the songs they list here is 79.33 minutes, at $40 you are hardly getting a bargain. I would strongly recommend, if you wanted to see if you like the band, to buy UFO, or HINTEN, both available rather reasonably. Then, move on to KANGURU, the third album and finally, onto GURU GURU. I wish I could tell you that their sound is a combination of CAN, and NEU, with elements of PINK FLOYD. But, it's not quite that easy. They are originals. Also, if you enjoy their early sound, it's worth finding a GARDEN OF DELIGHTS release by GURU GURU of a radio show from 1970, when they were at their psychedelic heights. A fantastic version of THE LSD-MARSCH that runs on for 14.22 is included on it. GURU GURU's ability to stretch out songs into incredible sonic explorations, is something that will no doubt endear you to the band, if you are into the JAMBAND sound. This CD leans towards that sound. If you like tight, 3 or 4 minute composistions, with little or no bizarre sonic twists surprising you, you might be disappointed. Because these Mensch love to fly their freak flag high."
