Guru Guru - 'Dance Of The Flames' (Inside Out)
Mike Reed | USA | 10/21/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Originally released in 1974, this was Guru Guru's seventh album, counting compilations.Even though ace krautrocker guitarist Ax Genrich had already jumped ship and was replaced by Houschang Nejadepour(former Eiliff member),I felt that 'Dance...' was a worth while effort.Maybe more progressive than past Guru Guru efforts but still likely to hold most fan's interest.Reason I'm even giving this CD reissue a four-star rating is mostly for effort,I guess. Most happening cuts here are the adventurous "Dagobert Duck's 100th Birthday","Girl From Hirschhorn",the wailing title track "Dance Of The Flames" and even thought I'm usually bored with most tunes as such, the jazzy "God's Endless Love For Man". Was pleasantly surprised by this disc. Line-up: Mani Neumeier-drums&keyboards, Houschang Nejadepour-guitar and Hans Hartman-bass. Nice."
Houschang Nejadepour's finest moment as a muscian

"I bought this disk knowing that Ax Genrich had left the band. As this is loudly lamented among Guru fans, I was expecting Nejadepour to be a poor substitute and the record to pale in comparison to those with Ax. I wasn't pleasantly surprised, I was pleasantly blown away. Nejadepour plays like the bastard son of Van Halen, McLaughlin, and Hendrix. His guitar playing is continually inventive and carries all of the tunes. He is a master of improvising along to a themes, and makes this record a stand out in the Guru catalogue. He also wrote or co-wrote all of the album tracks. The bonus song, a live version of Doing wasn't his so I can't say he wrote or co-wrote all of the song. Unfortunately, I cannot find much of anything about Nejadepour on the internet after the release of this album. He seems to have dropped out of music altogether. I wonder what the story is? Selfishly, I wish he would have continued to make music as I would love to have followed his development over the last 30 years. But at least we have this disk and some by a band called Eiliff. I cannot comment on the quality of that band's output as I have not heard any of their stuff, although I plan to.

If you know what happened to Nejadepour, or you know of any other recordings he may have done could you email me. the address should be under my name to the side.

Cheers."
