Synopsis

Album Description
gROUSe's debut "We Want To Be Loved" is dark yet soothing downtempo electronica. Containing both instrumental and vocal tracks the album has a distinct flow from start to finish. Combining live guitars, bass, trumpet and percussion with beats and sublte synthesized sounds, comparisons have been made to Kruder & Dorfmeister, Portishead, Thievery Corporation and Zero 7. With the drive of horns and bass, Tuesday Wednesday opens the album the album as a kind of intro into the very laid back beats of "Prosperous". By way of the vocal and acoustic guitar driven "Lies on Me" and the ambient "Dedlya" the music later delves into darker territory with Freak Of Nurture and Suicide Kills Me. The title track is an 8 minute dub piece climaxing with organs, improvsised tumpet and a pulsing bass line. "As If To Prove A Point" ends the album on a more melodic but slightly trippy feel. gROUSe is San Francisco musician/ producer Ronan Carroll. With the considerable vocal talents of Aoife Hand and several guest musicians the music was put together in Carroll's own Locust Studios in San Francisco.

CD Reviews

A trippy mellow gem!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Amazing work! Grouse (Ronan Carroll) combines intricately interwoven dreamy layers of music producing a wonderfully rich narrative tapestry. There are obvious influences of Gorillaz (particularly on Twisted), of Kruder + Dorfmeister, and of Moby - with undertones of Pink Floyd, Massive Attack and Zero7. Make no mistake however, this is an artist with a definite musical vision and voice of his own. Self-produced in his San Francisco studio, this debut effort heralds the emergence of a remakable new talent.

Paradoxically, while there is something new to discover on each listening, the album makes for perfect background music - down tempo, mellodic, and trippy - the perfect accompaniment to a good book on a rainy afternoon. Buy it!"
