"Furry Lewis is a blues legend from the 1920s who wound-up being a street sweeper in Memphis before he was rediscovered in the 60s. This CD is essentially a field recording - the material was recorded during the summer of 1969 in Lewis's Memphis apartment as he sat on his bed. These songs are as raw as can be, with no polish, and certainly plenty of mistakes. But this an authentic glimpse into the talent of a then 76-year old blues pioneer. Other outtakes from this session are available on "Fourth & Beale" on the Lucky Seven label."

"Although this is not Furry's best work, it's not the worst introduction to the fine singing, guitar-playing, and songwrting of this underappreciated blues master. The sound quality is excellent, which allows for a closer appreciation of the fine details of Furry's picking than some of the older recordings; however, listeners are advised to turn to Furry's recordings from the 1920s to gain a true appreciation of the man's incredible talent."
