CD ReviewsThe Funky Lowlives live up to their name silhouette_of_enchantment | USA | 08/14/2004 (2 out of 5 stars) "I listened to this album based on a recommendation. Again, I know musical tastes vary, but for me, this album was not what I'd hoped it would be. Like a previous reviewer said, there are a few good tracks on The Funky Lowlives Cartouche.
Personally, however, I prefer consistency: something the Funky Lowlives failed to do on this album. The few good tracks don't save the album as a whole. When the Funky Lowlives' songs are bad, they truly stink, thus living up to their name. Some of their hooks start off with the promise of evolving into a really nice, but then that promise is "snatched" away. The hooks into segue something unlistenable...as if the hooks themselves transformed into some megalithic Robeast monster (see Voltron, to know what I'm talking about with this reference.) On some of the other tracks, I found them stale and predictable. I could only listen to this album once - and for me that was like listening to a person grate their fingernails against the chalkboard over and over. The "nice songs" were like "nice breaks" in between grates. The nice tracks enabled me to give this two stars instead of one." |
