"these guys from berks county, pa just keep getting better with every cd. darren schlappich has evolved into one of the top songwriters in the alt-country scene - bar none. try to disregard the the inevitable comparison's to bands like son volt, tupelo, etc. while it's true that if you enjoy these more known roots rock bands you'll enjoy frog holler, this band definitely has it's own sound going on. anyone who calls frog holler a 'son volt tribute' (like someone did in the reviews for holler's previous cd - adams hotel road) just isn't listening hard enough - and they've certainly never had the chance to see frog holler play live. these guys are all about having a good time, almost 'gourds like' in their ability to put on a lively performance that gets the crowd rockin' out, drankin' yuengling, and singing along. there's not a bad tune on the new cd. the lyrics run from heartbreaking to comical. the moods swing from soft solo acoustic to full band complete with horn section and raucously shouted background vocals. if you need to hear a comparison - well, there's elements of the gourds, early rolling stones, townes van zandt, and yes... son volt. 'idiots' is a good trip. do yerself a favor and pick up a copy. that way you'll be able to say 'i knew frog holler back when...', and you can start comparing the next wave of alt country bands to them."
