The Magic Continues
Carleton R. Johnson | Williamsburg, VA USA | 01/25/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First, you may want to read my reviews of Frigg and Frigg/Oasis in order to fully understand what I am about to tell you. Frigg's music touches my soul in a way that I cannot fully put my finger on. I am not sure that I will ever be able to adequately explain it to anyone who has yet to hear them play. They certainly take me back to Scandinavia every time I crank them up on my stereo, but it is a wonderful, magical Scandinavia that I hardly knew. A Finland, Sweden, and Norway that I want so desperately to know more.

Have you ever listened to a bit of music and said to yourself, out of the earshot of others, "This is what I want to be the score of my life!" ? It touches you so deep that you know it must have been written and performed just for you. I am sure Frigg have simply been having a great time writing and playing the music they love, without a clue as to what it might stir up inside a half-century-old man living halfway around the world.

I have just heard Economy Class for the first time, and all I can say is that the magic of Frigg continues. They have added new and exciting music to my life score. I have never been much of a dancer, but when I listen to the fire flying from those fiddles, I want to get up and jump around the room. This time around they seem to have spent some time on tour here in the USA soaking up the music of Louisiana. They deftly incorporate Cajun-style riffs into more than one boot stomping, Frigg-original polka.

Another surprise on this third album - singing! Vocal group Kardemimmit joins Frigg on two charming folk songs, a very welcome departure. Other guests join the fiddle masters, melding seamlessly into the Frigg experience.

As I sit listening for the sixth time to the genius of 'Kind Of Polka', (tied as my new favorite with 'Northern Lights'), I find myself wondering, will I have to leave this music behind when I pass from this earth? Or will God graciously allow Frigg to play on for us forever?"
A very fun, catchy world music record

"A lively, rollicking fiddle music lovefest. Although this half-Finnish, half-Norwegian band shows its Nordic roots, there are also strong echoes of Appalachian/Celtic and American cajun music in the mix as well. Whatever the sources, the music on this disc is cheerful and infectious -- once it starts, you can't stop smiling. Anyone with an interest in fiddle-based folk music will want to check this out: it's fun, innovative and invigorating. Recommended! (Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guie To World Music)"
Blends elements of traditional Finnish and Norwegian string
Midwest Book Review | Oregon, WI USA | 11/14/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Economy Class is the latest music CD album by power-string band Frigg, which blends elements of traditional Finnish and Norwegian string music with no-holds-barred enthusiasm worthy of rock stars, spiced with the unpredictable rhythms or even missing beats. The fiddle is the core instrument featured, but Economy class draws upon a wide variety of acoustic instruments from the mandolin and cittern to a Finnish bagpipe, a jaw harp, and even a dobro. A wonderful collection of original tunes grown from the fusion of individual creativity and the eclectic inspiration of jam sessions, Economy Class is a welcome addition to both personal and public library music CD shelves. The tracks are"Jalla jalla", "Norrsken", "Polka International de Louisiane", "When the time comes I'll be ready", "Viinalaulu", "Kind of Polka", "Kisapolska", "Economy class", "Northern lights", and "Lars Lenkelifot". 35 minutes, 53 seconds.
