Synopsis

Album Description
A premiere recording - and superb performance - of the Cerha concerto by master cellist Heinrich Schiff, whose 2006 recital disc last year with Frank-Peter Zimmermann was, among other accolades, a Gramophone Editor's Choice. This disc is also an important continuation of ECM's work with insightful conductor Peter Eötvös and the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra. ECM New Series continues to document the work of important contemporary composers such as Friedrich Cerha, widely considered Austria's greatest living composer, who makes his ECM debut here at age of 81. It is also the first time that the intriguing music of Franz Schreker (1878-1934) has appeared on ECM.
