CD ReviewsFreezepop Forevor! TheExuberantCat | Austin, TX USA | 08/24/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "In the blistering heat of the summer of 1999, Liz Enthusiasm, the Duke of Candied Apples, and the Other Sean T. Drinkwater decided to make a synth pop band to cool off. What better a name for a cool band than that of the refreshing treat, Freezepop?
On their first full-length release in 2001, Forever, Freezepop show that it can be cool to be a nerd. At least it can sound cool. Freezepop have found a way to perfectly mix Electronica and Pop with this release. Though a bit short at 45 minutes, the album entertains for the majority of it. Opening with their tribute to match-makers, Harebrained Scheme, to their title track, Freezepop Forever, Freezepop delivers a poppy synth album that can be very enjoyable. They have a couple of songs that, though entertaining, begin to feel like filler towards the middle. On the whole, it is a very enjoyable album, and a very good debut album to boot! Their music has been found referenced in the frog cartoon Kerri's Big Invention in the song, "Science Genius Girl." The song was also used in the video games FreQuency and Karaoke Revolution. Another sign of their popularity is evident in their song "Get Ready 2 Rokk" being featured in the hit game Guitar Hero. Tracks that stick out: "Harebrained Scheme," "Get Ready 2 Rokk," and "Freezepop Forever." Rating: (**)(**)(**)(*-)(--) (3.5/5 stars)" |
