A great artiste - and a fine collection ...

"This CD has several of Freddy's classic hits, but several other CDs and collections have the same hits. I suspect there may be a better album. My favorite track is "The Welfare (Turns Its Back on You)" -- not a well known hit as far as I can tell, but it really should be. The opening track "You've got love her with a feeling" is awesome, and of course "Hide Away" & "Have you ever loved a Woman" are now established blues classics frequently covered by contemporary blues performers. Some of the tracks feature a distinctly 60's surf sound - rather than straight blues. I like surf music like the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean, but it seemed a little dated to me -- and I can't help feeling Freddy was under pressure at the time to be commercial, modern and hip. However there are many great tracks here and some wonderful guitar playing and singing."
