"This is probably the third time that Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon has shared his original masters with a re-issue label. The last time was 2000 when Varese Sarabande issue two CDs, the first the Swan 45s, the second the later WB sides. Both of these CDs were remastered at Digiprep, the sine qua non of remastering studios (the Complete Stax Volt Singles on Atlantic) by Dan Hersch. The first was sonically limited but far, far superior to the current 2009 Shout release where the Swan sides - putting aside the inevitable surface noise of 78s - sound worse dynamically than many 78s from the 40s and 50s (and even the 20s!!!!). Really poor quality - unless you like your CDs precompressed for dubbing to mp3.I'd hoped for better. If you want Freddy Cannon - look for the Swan Years on Varese Sarabande 302 066 111 2 and the WB years on Varese Sarabande 302 066 341 2"
