Synopsis

Though Freddie Ravel has done stints as music director for singer Al Jarreau and as a touring member of Earth, Wind & Fire, the keyboardist remains one of the best-kept secrets in smooth jazz. This album, his third, and his first in six years, may change that. Pretty melodies and lush arrangements that are dominated by the music of his Hispanic heritage mark Ravel's music. Marc Antoine, Peter White, and the team of Strunz and Farah will draw fans of flamenco guitar to this release. And Ravel's legendary ex-bandmates from EW&F, bassist Verdine White and guitarist Al McKay, add a funk punch to the track "Sunny Side Up." Ravel shows his palatable vocal chops on the memorable Latin-pop song, "Love Is in the Air ... When You're Aware," a tune that owes a distinct rhythmic debt to Tito Puente. This outing for Ravel should resonate with anyone fond of the crossroads between smooth jazz and samba, rumba, and merengue. --Mark Ruffin

CD Reviews

An Incredible Album By An Amazing Player!!
Nick Arandes | Orlando, Florida United States | 05/28/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There are two kinds of musicians, the ones who can play notes, and those rare ones who can actually express feelings and emotions through their instrument in such manner that touches the heart of the listener. Without a doubt, Freddie Ravel is one of those rare examples. Not only I own his three albums, but I also had the privilege to see him playing live and all I can say is, that is a show you don't want to miss. I truly recommend this CD. Don't take my word. Experience it yourself and you'll know what I mean. Keep this in mind, anything that has the name Freddie Ravel attached to it, is worth owning. By far he's one of the best keyboard players out there."
Pleasantly uninspired

"This cd sounds very much like something Yanni might have composed except that Freddie is a better pianist. I found the tunes to be pleasantly uninspired and rather forgettable but there are no duds among them. Some might find it helpful in accenting romantic interludes. If you enjoy moonlight "mood" music then this album will enlighten you."
Excellent choice , wonderful inspiration!

"Without any doubt , the best expression you can find after you listen this album is Vow!

The repertoire is loaded with high caliber mood . Ravel made atractive arrangements (Love is in the air) and above all he could combine the beat with the musicality without boring you in any track .

I am not an expert in Smooth Jazz. And from time to time I enjoy this music with a friend of mine . In this opportunity this discovery was casual . Once more Earth, wind and fire still keep producing fortunate echoes .

Acquire this issue and you will be widely rewarded.!"
