"I sometimes get the feeling this one should be called "Herbie Hancock in concert" (with no disrespect to Freddie or Stanley intended, they are both flawless) because he just takes off here, a truly stratospheric performance. Indeed the first number, Hornets, is his composition, and the horn players don't even feature. Jack de Johnette is in top form, as usual. Gibraltar is repeated, but they are two different versions taken from two different shows, with completely different, and equally marvelous, energies. I'm particular fan of long jazz tracks where the musicians can really get into their solos, and this album is a "full plate" as far as this is concerned, the shortest track being just under ten minutes. One of my favourite live albums. Great stuff, lap it up if you get the chance!"
