CD ReviewsA Good Freddie Hubbard Album Allan | Melbourne, Australia | 10/27/2008 (3 out of 5 stars) "I recently bought "High Blues Pressure" by Freddie Hubbard today. Overall a good sounding album that's suits the time; however, to me Freddie Hubbard sounded his best on the Blue Note and Pablo record labels. There is something about a Blue Note recording that only a "Jazz Buff" would understand... and that is, on the spot of the moment that is captured on tape. "High Blues Pressure" is missing the Blue note sound that is so very hard to describe. Please don't get me wrong the playing is great the line up is outstanding but I guess it is missing that Blue Note sound that I am so use to hearing. To sum up the CD; in my opinion a record label is the key to a genre', a family to the artists, i.e. Blue Note, Pablo and Motown are perfect examples that will describe a sound with the performers. Try comparing a capitol recording of Sinatra with a Reprise recording and you will see what I mean. Get this album if you are a Freddie Hubbard fan. I saw him live in Melbourne in the 80's. Style of music is a mixture of Hard Bop and Be Bop with a tinge of a modern influence. Freddie Hubbard always gave is his best in his best to his listeners. Thank you "Oldies Collectors" for reissuing this CD and thank you Freddie!"
