"Issac Hayes had SHAFT, Curtis had SUPERFLY, Edwin Starr got HELL UP IN HARLEM, JB got BLACK CEASAR (Hell Up In Harlem, Pt. 1) and Slaughter's Big Rip Off.If you like Fred Wesley and The JBs and James Brown's albums circa THE PAYBACK this album is a must have. The film ain't too bad either (if you're into Black Action films). Brother Rapp, the Jazzy Transmogripfication prominantly featuring Fred Wesley and People Get Up And Drive Your Funky soul are JB classics ! Lyn Collins "The Female Preacher" (of "It Takes Two To Make A Thing Go Right" fame) is also in it.Check out the James Brown's FUNKY PEOPLE (1, 2 and 3) series if you like this stuff ! Also check out REALITY and HELL, two other classic JB albums of that particular era, plus FRED WESLEY AND THE J.B.'s Breakin' Bread !"
ESSENTIAL!!!

"Black Caesar is good but this soundtrack is MUCH better! "Brother Rapp," "Slaughter's Theme," and "People Get Up..." are all excellent. The instrumentals are all equally good. This has the horn heavy sound that is the trademark of 70's JB's. Two songs, "Happy for the Poor" and "Straight Ahead" can be found on other cds albeit in different versions. The instrumental "Straight Ahead" is the same as "Someone" from the "Hell" cd. All killer no filler. Highly recommended."
