The Andrews Sisters and Guy Lombardo's joint recordings, 'Winter Wonderland', 'Merry Christmas Polka', 'Christmas Island' and 'Christmas Candles' sold in their millions. Finally the icing on the (Christmas) cake has to be the entire Dick Haymes Christmas album appearing on CD for the first time with such gems as 'The Christmas Song' and 'Christmas Dreaming'. "Because of Amazon's penchant for product groups, I need to clarify that this review relates to Jasmine JASCD 149: "Winter Wonderland - A Christmas Celebration".

The first CD of this 2-CD set contains a selection from Capitol LPs by Fred Waring & his Pennsylvanians, which group carved out something of a niche with Christmas albums. In addition, "The Meaning of Christmas" seems to be featured in its entirety, plus the title track from "The Song of Christmas".

The second CD is more diverse, and contains thirteen tracks by Guy Lombardo with a variety of vocalists, including the Andrews Sisters, who also contribute seven tracks on their own account, and nine tracks by Dick Haymes.

The compilation is an excellent blend of traditional and modern (using the latter term loosely) and should appeal across the board at the festive season."
