After joining what today is known as the Vienna Boys Choir his talents surfaced in such a way that Antonio Salleri offered to train him personally. With pressure from his family Schubert became an educator at his father s school until he broke away to become an independent tutor. During this time Schubert wrote some of his best known music including the three-act opera Alfonso und Estrella. Schubert s greatness was cut short due to a disease that took his life at 31.
