Outstanding -- and an argument for digital downloads

"I must confess I have thus far gotten through only a third of the dances in this set, but clearly it deserves the raves from the likes of ClassicsToday among others; I don't think I've ever heard such concentrated inspiration in one place, except in Szell's epochal reading of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances. The first minuet by itself is an equal to "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik". That this is published by Vivendi's Australasian arm shows that when it comes to its back catalog the record business has no sense. I have read (in connection with ArkivMusic's operations) some high EMI exec say that the majors don't inventory their works. I don't know whether this is balderdash or comedy. To be sure enough musically unredeemed junk qualifies for distribution, and the world has more than enough albums of "Beethoven's Greatest Hits", but Lord knows how many works of genius languish in vaults but for the luck of the draw -- and we are exceedingly lucky somebody at Vivendi noticed this."

"Wonderful CD. You might also enjoy another CD titled "Haydn: Eight Notturni For The King Of Naples"."
