The spirit of the performance here is uncompromising in its devotion to Frank Wright's desire to make music that had been heretofore unheard, and to take willing listeners to places they have never been before, and could never get to again. The term"outside" that was frequently used to describe free music at the time is particularly appropriate to Wright's sound, for it is truly aiming to soar out of this world. When his saxophone enters the fray, screaming & Squealing at the top of its register and roaring & bellowing in its bottom, it is seeking to express that which cannot be expressed in words-the infinite power of the soul.
